Assignment Task:

1. The main sources to be utilized in your selected time period, will consist of media reports and/or political discussion accessed through online media sources which explores public, political and media reactions to migration/ethnicity and/or ‘race’
2. It is expected that the introductory sections of the portfolio will explore both the broad historical and theoretical background to migration/ethnicity and race in your selected context
3. The analytical argument which runs through the portfolio submission will be expected to engage with the following issues:

• Critical consideration of at least one key theory pertaining to explanations of migration
• A discussion of how and why migration/ethnicity/’race’ are regarded as controversial subjects
• A discussion on how and why a selected time frame was identified and (if applicable) its relevance to current theoretical, policy or practices debates in relation to ‘race’, ethnicity and migration
• Evaluation of the impacts (actual or anticipated) of the policy, practice or media debates which occurred in your selected time frame.
