Questions

Case:

You are the manager of a policing department within Abu Dhabi Police. One of your team members, Abdulla, has been showing a gradual decline in the quality of his performance and his attitude. He is attending work late, becoming rude with his co-workers, and he is missing deadlines. He feels that he has been overlooked for a recent promotion. You realise that his performance should be addressed by yourself, whilst working with Human Resources.

Human Resources offers you two approaches to dealing with the issue. The first is about following the performance management and appraisal policies, the second is about organizing a time to listen to Abdulla in order to understand his issues and begin to address them together. These two approaches could be referred to as traditional and modern, and both can affect employee motivation.
